Disappointing Second Life classifieds search

“Free linden dollars” search has been a part of my daily routine in SL. Today, I am disappointed with the results of my search for free linden. This is because of false advertisements placed by A LOT of businesses that doesn’t even offer free lindens at all. Then of course, the others are not really false advertisements but they are the same old HippiePay, camping spots that pays high or sometimes low and those new free lindens company like MyLindens, SlamX and Money Egg.

Use “All” search rather than classifieds

Since the classifieds section is being bombarded with false advertisements, I decided to use the ALL-Search rather than specifically looking at the Classifieds alone. Using “All” may not look good for the others but this way, I can see the groups, the places, the classifieds, and everything inside Second Life with the keywords “free linden dollars”. Another advantage of using ALL is that the results are arranged from the closest keyword result and not arranged by who’s the highest bidder for the top Ad spot.

Always put more keywords in your search

This is the biggest mistake I’ve ever done. I always search by only typing in “free linden dollars”, “free lindens” and “earn free lindens” and it seems that is the worst thing I did. Putting more keywords like “free linden dollars through sign-up” only gave me half of a page result rather than getting 301 results with 80% irrelevant results. This is because there are business owners that puts a lot of keywords in the bottom of their Ad description or Place description.

here’s an example of an ad with a lot of keywords:

WE PAY YOU FOR JUST STAYING IN THE SIM. Survey, HippiePay, free lindens, free linden, free linden dollars, camping, best camping, high pay camping, camping spots, sex, bdsm, gore, pay, lindens, linden, money… etc..

A lot really does that instead of just putting in what their business is really all about. We can’t change that truth but we can change how we use the search feature of Second Life. By entering more keywords, you evade having results from false advertisements that bombards their description pages with a lot of keywords.

    Hahaha. Yep. It seems like the camping spots with decent (or good) rates always get shut down pretty quickly because there are people that will stay there for hours and hours to rack up the money. I can understand that they want lindens (so do I), but I'm not sure if I could stay in a place for an incredibly long time without really doing anything.

    On a positive note, it did lead me to a 1l/3min camp site. (Which earn me some linen until the owner remove the camping chair recntly due to abuse)

    'All' is actually the best way to go. I use that when I search for anything, since it can get you a lot more than one section could.

    Unfortunately, like you said, a lot of businesses put a bunch of keywords at the bottom of their ad. Sometimes the keywords don't actually apply to them either.

    Depending on what you're looking for, you might want to try various words that might fit what you are trying to find, like synonyms - along with being specific if you don't find any desired results.
