Starting your own business

  • Do you like this?

So you’ve got all those linden dollars for free. You bought yourself some nice clothes, a new shape (if you can’t create a good one) and the best skin for your style. Now what? You just don’t spend all your money all day for clothes, fashion or the gadgets you love.

Save for your capital

You already have a capital for free after earning free linden dollars from here. Don’t spend too much! It’s the big break you are waiting for from Second Life poverty and can be your way to making money from Second Life.

Knowing your business

Now don’t just dive in to what is “IN” or what you think can make you rich quick. There’s no way of getting rich quick because the only way to be rich quick is to win a lottery. So you have to find where your skill is at. If you’re the one who loves or just know how to use Photoshop, you might want to try the graphical industry– clothes and textures. (you already have some money to upload the images at this point)

If you have skill in 3D graphics or good in designing architectural structures and objects, you might want to try the building industry. Become a freelance builder at first by showing them what you can do.

OR if you love writing, you can work for a lot of news and magazine companies out there.

Lastly, if you’re not good even in writing, you can try blogging (like what I did) and make some money out of your blog.

A business that you know

This is where every individual who failed on their businesses have in common… they don’t know a thing on the business they got into. YOU should know how to do your own business. Research and learning them will be better. Don’t do a business that you really don’t know of doing in the first place.

Example: You’re good in writing but you instead made a business in clothes since you think you can earn more from there.

Don’t create a business if your goal is just to earn more! Of course it’s earning more that we want but you should take one step at a time and don’t just jump anywhere. Look before you leap.

It’s not about making millions quickly, it’s about making 1L$ from millions of people.

I have an interest in all of those things. I’m one of those people that appears to be like a modern mercenary – I can do just about everything to a certain point, but I don’t “fit” with -one- thing. When people start talking in the overly complicated language of the skill (at least in the case of graphical/technical things), it’s not easy for me to follow. I pretty much do it by visual standards to see what works (that’s kind of why I like Paint Shop Pro so much). Not many programs allow for that kind of incredible flexibility though.

Even so, writing has always been close to me since I was younger… but it doesn’t tend to pay much in SL especially over time. Well, aside from that, there aren’t very many people hiring either. I guess I’ll just continue trying to make things on occasion.

The only real skills that I have in SL is writing and translating (between chinese, malay and english). Translation bought me some doughs but I do not have much assignment those days.

I tried to do security jobs in the beginning but the serious paying one required security experience, which one has to acquired through those well-established squads (whom all rejected my applicants)

As for writing, I rather blog. Earning a few thousand lindens per month for writing is peanuts compared to ads revenue from a blog

Blogging is difficult though. I gave up on it again. ^^;; It’s also hard to get money from ads if you don’t have the right connections. Then again, I haven’t tried and don’t imagine I will for a while. Maybe I’ll just make a mini-site for products, if I ever make any.

It’s sad. A lot of jobs require you to have a lot of experience, yet you can’t get the experience without doing the job pretty much. Or they probably judge you right off. I’m still sort of looking around for jobs, but it’s almost pointless anymore.

This christmas holiday coming up has put me in the mood to get gifts for all my SL friends. So while looking around I starting thinking about the different things I saw and decided I wanted to put something together out of different ideas. Turns out my basic creativity was a great turnout, and it has led me to think big. Maybe start selling these gifts and sharing the idea with everyone on SL.
Can you hear the gears spinning in my head? ;)
