Holy $#!+ it’s Windlight!

At this very moment, I’m loving the new first look client for Second Life. Yes, Windlight is back on the first look and there’s nothing more better to see than Second Life having a realistic environment.

I even forgot to post anything on this blog because of having fun with the sky and the water.

Water and Sky in Windlight

See that!? Photo-realistic environment in Second Life! I can die now seeing this in a 3D world.

It’s a first look!

If you think you cannot use windlight in your main SL account, well you’re wrong. Since the client is a first look, you’ll be logging in to the main world with your main account. Download it now and have fun!

I upgraded my video card drivers to try to get this too work better, I have the reflections now, but everything else looks worse. May have to buy myself a video card for Christmas, if I can’t tweak it to make it look better.

I probably have to upgrade video card. I tried Windlight and I couldn’t see other avatars. I knew they were there because there were floating names, but I couldn’t see the actual avatars. So yeah, my avatar was kinda lonely yesterday. Felt a little weird walking around SL with all those floating names and no other avatar around.

Kinda reminded me of a short story I read about a man who finds an artifact that could freeze people. He is a good man but the artifact causes him to steal things and do very bad things. Towards the end, he is torn between destroying the artifact or continuously use it. And then, the artifact is accidentally activated. When everyone and everything stop, he drops the artifact unintentionally and it breaks.

Yeah, the story makes me cringe everytime I remember it. It felt a little like that yesterday in SL using Windlight. Alone, the only living avatar left on the face of SL world. My avatar almost went bonkers.

I had similiar issues when using certain games in the past prior to my SL experience. The top 2 reasons were an overheating video card, or a lack of the latest drivers. Dig up what model the card is you have and make sure you have all the latest drivers. You may save yourself some dough and not have to buy another one.

Anyone who is gonna buy a new video card, i recommend the 8800gt. It’s half the price of the gtx, but work as fine as it is.

Imma gonna go download windlight, it looks orgasmic. XD

I cant wait 4 my complete new PC after new Years.
      Whoohoo.
It does look cool but laggy at the moment.

      • Carizz Cruzem

Well, current SL is still laggy, so I’m not at all surprised that Windlight is, yeah, laggy. Although, it could be my system (lol).

But, yeah, it looks good and realistic, especially the reflection on water.

ATTENTION CHINO: Please don’t die. Who will continue your Good Samaritan deeds? (hehe… mambola ba?)

    • buaya Burger

I think I will go for the new radeon 38750/3870 series graphic card instead. Heard that they are cheaper than 8800gt

The ATI series has never been good for me since I started using them somewhere around 10 years back. I try them again when they improve performance, and continued to have overheating problems, break up of video, lock ups, and just a general headache. Currently using gforce nvidia cards and they have been a champion for over a year since I picked up an XPS Dell system. Highly reccomend this alternative.

      • buaya Burger

You should try their lastest series if you have some dough. They are cheap, consume much less power and generally does not overheat (unless you try to overclock them). At least until nvidia strike better with their revised products soon. I have the luxury to change my video card anytime as I am on a diy computer

I found that even items I never wore anymore cause I thought they were dull and useless, look better under windlight. The key though, it to tell everyone else you know and meet to use it too, or you just have the same dull outfit….heh

      • buaya Burger

Not for me, at least for my case. I do not know whether it is my graphic card (a radeon x800 agp) or something, but basically the rendering for the water and land being upgraded, the rendering of the other objects pretty looks the same as the original sl viewer, even at the highest setting (at 1024*768 resoultion)

This WindLight add-on is incredible. I have been sharing it with all the people I know on STA. I work there as a greeter, and welcome any of you to come on down and hang there as well. There is a lot of water there, so you can see WindLight in action there too :)

Being that SL is already entertaining, and creative, add-ons or viewers like this make it new again. The HUDS like CSI and HOPPY add an interesting twist too.

      • buaya Burger

I hope that they keep csi sim after the current csi series ends.

With the writers guild strike in the USA, a lot of shows are suffering, which will end up in a trickle effect and possibly kill these sort of cool things we would see more of.
The financial loss is reported to be extemely bad as a result of the strike, so many shows have shortened seasons, and I am sure CSI has felt it too.

      • buaya Burger

Funny time is that the strike was announced long ago but nothing have been done in the meanwhile to prevent the strike

      • StormShadow Maertens

Yeha, it seems like they really thought that it wouldn’t happen, or that the guild wanted to strike not matter what, and felt they could get more if they did…either way, it hurts television in my book which was finally getting a good bunch of shows on a regular basis.

      • buaya Burger

I am not affect by the strike. I live in singapore and if we do not have amercian shows to watch, we would turned to asian shows to watch anyway. We are pretty flexible in our variety of shows we watch
