Windlight is killer, but I have found that attempting to look for stuff underwater is impossible while using it. Its as murky as using my RL eyes under water ;)
I had to switch back to regular SL to see what I was doing.

I am now quite disappointed about windlight rendering of the other objects other than the water and the lands. They look like brightened version of their counterparts. I have seen more better rendered object elsewhere

They have since repaired the water issue, and you can now see clearly underwater. So download windlight and enjoy!

Forgive me for my rank ignorance; i am completely unfamiliar (but very intrigued) with the concept of Second Life. Could you enlighten me, what can a Linden dollar buy me?

It could buy you the item you want, provided it is the right price, much like the other online games where there is a similiar cocept where you can earn money to buy items for your avatar (If you have any experience in those game)

Or it could buy you 1/280 of a us dollar.

Earlier there was a blog on Windlight, and I checked out this incredible viewer. There are some cons like being underwater is not so good. But the overall, its an incredible thing to see. If you have a relatively nice 3d card, use it! You will be amazed at the just the water change ;)

I bet you have not seen better rendered game environment, even in games similiar to second life like the sims.

Actually I have worked with computers and animation since 3d inception. I am fully aware of the graphic abilities.

With SL I am impressed with the WINDLIGHT viewer and its benefits. Sure its not perfect, but the program is a fantastic addition to the current viewer assuming you have a 3d card and computer to handle it!

I’m new to SL so I don’t know the difference between Windlight and not.

Anyone reading this blog about the time of this post should note that there is wierd issue with the current update.

Black circles encompass any sim you are in.

This is easily fixed however. You just go into your PREFERENCES and then select the GRAPHICS tab. Here just click on the RECOMMENDED SETTINGS to reset the program and the circles will vanish.

A lot of people were having an issue with it, and I took the time to read up on the update. :)

Windlight is an enhanced viewer and is intended for systems with better video for 3d rendering. If your having a tough time running the SL environment already, you might pass on it until you upgrade. You can see screenshots via Chino’s link at the top though, so take a look. :)
