Effect of Google’s Punishment on PageRank

  • Do you like this?

After the punishment google gave me back in January this year from PageRank(PR) 4 to PR 0, the effects of it are very evident. I’ve got lesser review orders ever since and lesser ad proposals.

Cause of the Punishment

It is pretty obvious why my blog is punished. This is because of my monthly Wicked Blog Contest wherein part of the contest is to link to the contest post and this blog. Another is the text-link-Ads which Google really did announce that selling links will just merit you a flag on their system.

Coming to a decision

Since my Search Engine Result Position did not change, I’m okay with the Google punishment. More reviews or ads may mean more money for me but my Wicked Blog Contest is one way for me to share what I earn in Second Life to my faithful readers and future readers to come. If it’s not for my readers, I wouldn’t be in this position in Second Life. I can convert linden dollars anyway to real money so it’s okay. My readers will always come first. They’re the ones who made this blog reach where it is now. (on the top of the search engines!)

I still don’t understand the ranking system.
You can’t manage money on your blog or something?

Oh oh wait, I had to google it:

    * Links intended to manipulate PageRank
    * Links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web
    * Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging (“Link to me and I’ll link to you.”)
    * Buying or selling links that pass PageRank

    I get it now >_>;

It just shows how ridiculous the penalty is when it doesn’t really effect the ‘rank’ of your ‘page’! It does affect the earning power of your site when it’s penalized though. I’m glad to hear that you’re still doing ok.

It’s best to have a number of different methods of earning money from your site in case something goes wrong. Easier said than done though!

Yes and the world is larger there than just depending on blogging. In fact for google ads, there is more than one way of using them, not just blogging and hope that your traffic and google come and reward you

I’m just curious: What other way could you use google ads?

I think he refer to revenue sharing aka sharing off adsense code. That is popular in some forum like digitalpoint

Interestingly I’ve been reading that the removal of the rank has been only a cosmetic exercise. Blogs continue to have actual PageRank on their sites and links to other sites continue to pass PageRank but the visible, toolbar rank is hidden. It’s possible that they could just lift the penalty and your rank would once again be visible. Possible anyway. I don’t know if it’s probable.

I like most of Google’s services but damn their Gestapo attitude. About two years ago they informed me that my site, which used Adwords, violated their policy and they banned me! I had no idea why as they didn’t give a reason. I went through the appeal process and after two weeks their response was something like “After further review, our decision stands.” I’m banned for life, seriously for life, from ever using Adwords without a way to know what I did wrong. Boy did that tick me off.

I found that there are lots of alternatives to Adwords. They may not have the vast variety of sellers and links, but they work just the same and some even pay better.

Here’s a list of ten of them (including Adwords of course ). http://www.payperclicksearchengines.com/

    Ahkums

I got my pagerank back although it’s only at PR1 right now but atleast I’m out of the dog house.

From PR3, slapped with PR0 and now at PR1. I guess that’s better than ZERO!

    Request a re-inclusion.

Thanks for the tips but from the look of it, the ball is still in their courts. There is no gurantee that you get reinstated
